Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for motivated and brilliant candidates with a strong academic background and a particular interest in energy use in hospitals or the civil sector in general. If you’re interested in applying techniques in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Advanced Control Systems to improve the use of sustainability benchmarks (SDG7, SDG11, SDG12), this project will provide you with an ideal platform to grow and contribute to a rapidly evolving sector.
The Doctoral Project
You will work in a dynamic and growing research group, made up of international colleagues, at the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pavia. Current projects range from decision-support tools for energy management to microgrids, from life-cycle analysis (LCA) for power converters to benchmarks for energy efficiency, and support for greater adoption of renewable energy in rural communities.
The topic will fall under the category “Energy Transition of Power Systems / Applications of Artificial Intelligence.” Two advisors—one from academia and one from the business world—will supervise the program, which will consist of periods of study and research at a company lasting from a minimum of six months to a maximum of eighteen months.
What’s Offered
Here is a list of what is offered as part of this doctoral program:
- Fully funded position for up to 3 years
- Pension Contributions and Paid Vacation
- A 6-month research period abroad during the second year
- At least 6 months of internship at a company
Application Deadlines and Procedures
Here are the deadlines and the application process:
- Deadline for submitting applications: July 1;
- To apply: Call for Applications for Admission to Ph.D. Programs – 40th Cycle (Academic Year 2024/2025) – Deadline: July 1, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. CET)
- The selection process will begin in July, with the results of the first round expected by the end of the month
- Official interviews for the second round in September
- The doctoral program is scheduled to begin in October
