Why Invest in Energy Efficiency?

Reducing energy consumption is not just a matter of saving money; it also represents an opportunity to improve the overall sustainability of industrial operations. Energy-efficiency measures help reduce a company’s carbon footprint while improving the competitiveness and efficiency of its production processes.

Energy Audit: A Detailed Analysis of Energy Consumption

An energy audit is the first essential step in any industrial energy efficiency project. This process involves a thorough analysis of the current condition of the facilities and the company’s energy consumption, with the goal of identifying waste, critical issues, and potential improvements.

Case Study: Energy Model and Consumption Analysis of an Electric Motor Manufacturing Plant

Goals and Challenges:

  • Assessment and Reduction of Heating and Electrical Demand in the Building-System Complex
  • Improving Operator Comfort

Suggested actions:

  • Initial Activities: Energy Modeling and Seasonal Thermographic Surveys
  • HVAC Optimization with New Refrigeration Units and Air Handling Units
  • Installation of a photovoltaic system and replacement of roof terminals and windows and doors

Expected results:

  • Improved energy efficiency and greater comfort for operators.

Carbon Footprint: Measuring Environmental Impact

Measuring one’s carbon footprint has become an essential requirement for many companies that want to monitor and reduce their CO2 emissions. Through a detailed analysis of the carbon footprint, Enertech Solution helps companies develop action plans aimed at reducing emissions and adopting more sustainable practices.

Design for energy efficiency

After completing the energy audit, the next step is to design technical solutions tailored to each specific industrial setting. Energy efficiency design involves either optimizing existing systems or designing new, more efficient systems with a lower environmental impact.

Case Study: Feasibility Study for the Recovery of Heat Generated by a Paper Mill

Enertech Solution conducted a feasibility study on the recovery of waste heat generated by a paper mill, with the goal of using it for district heating.

Goals and Challenges:

  • Main objective: To recover the heat generated by the production process and redirect it to a district heating network.
  • Specific challenge: Design efficient energy recovery solutions to make the most of the available energy.

Suggested actions:

  • Option 1: the installation of an additional heat exchanger capable of recovering up to 700 kW of thermal power and supplying approximately 14.0 MWh per day to the district heating network
  • Second option: transferring all the heat produced by the cogeneration unit to the district heating network; doing so would result in approximately 28.0 MWh being fed into the supply network and approximately 11.9 MWh being drawn from the return network

Expected results and benefits:

  • Improved energy efficiency: Heat recovery to reduce waste and support district heating.
  • Operational flexibility: Two heat recovery configurations, with options to maximize the transfer of the heat generated.
  • Cost Reduction: Estimated at approximately €145,500 for the implementation of the proposed system, with long-term energy benefits.

Case Study: Renovation of a Compressed Air Plant in a Municipality in Northern Italy

Enertech Solution has completed the detailed design to improve the efficiency of a compressed-air system serving a district heating network.

Goals and Challenges:

  • Main objective: To resolve the plant’s critical issues, such as compressor overheating and space constraints.
  • Specific challenge: Optimize system integration with a non-native distributed control system (DCS).

Suggested actions:

  • Optimization of space within the utility room by relocating the compressed air tank outdoors
  • Upgrade of the power plant’s ventilation system through the installation of new exhaust fans on the roof of the building
  • Replacement of the oldest compressors with new units equipped with a cascade control system, designed for optimal integration with the DCS.

Expected results:

  • Improved reliability and operational safety.

Energy consumption monitoring

Constant monitoring of energy consumption is an essential step in sustaining the benefits of energy efficiency measures over time. Enertech Solution offers advanced monitoring systems that allow companies to track energy consumption trends in real time, preventing potential anomalies and optimizing processes.

The Value of Continuous Monitoring

Monitoring energy consumption in real time allows companies to take prompt action when inefficiencies arise and to verify the effectiveness of the recommended measures. This process is key to ensuring that investments in energy efficiency continue to yield benefits over time.

Conclusions

Enertech Solution, with extensive experience in the field of industrial energy efficiency, serves as a reliable partner for companies seeking to improve their energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and comply with ever-evolving environmental regulations. We offer a comprehensive and integrated service—ranging from energy audits to design and monitoring, and even construction management—guiding businesses every step of the way toward a more sustainable future.
