Subject of the contract: Preparation of the bid proposal for the “Metropolitan City of Bologna Energy Services” tender.
Objective of the contract: To identify the best methods for managing the Energy Service and maintaining the heating systems for buildings used by the Emilia-Romagna Regional Government, with a particular focus on mechanical ventilation systems.
Key information
Client Name: Leading International Multi-Utility Company
Contract Name: Contract for Energy Services and Maintenance of Heating Systems for Buildings Used by the Emilia-Romagna Regional Government
Project period: January–February 2022
Total contract amount: The total value of the services is €90,000,000, divided into two separate lots, with a contract term of three years
Buildings involved: Numerous sites, primarily schools, in the provinces of Emilia-Romagna
Brief description of the planned activities: The requirements of the tender in question placed a strong emphasis on the mechanical ventilation systems to be proposed for buildings where the Energy Service is to be provided.
Analysis of Mechanical Ventilation Systems
The following were carried out In-depth analyses to identify the best strategy for developing efficient and minimally invasive mechanical ventilation systems. The key factors that guided the design process in selecting these systems were Comfort, Health, Energy, and Maintenance.
Preliminary Sizing and Air Exchange Rate
A preliminary sizing of the mechanical ventilation systems that are proposed for installation, in compliance with all regulations pertaining to indoor ventilation, in terms of the required outdoor air flow rate for proper air exchange and the requirements for the prevention and control of the risk of virus transmission.
Three Typical Mechanical Ventilation Solutions
Three standard solutions were therefore defined:
- Project Type 1: Single-flow Controlled Mechanical Ventilation Unit with heat recovery;
- Project Type 2: Dual-flow Controlled Mechanical Ventilation Unit with heat recovery;
- Project Type 3: Outdoor Air Handling Unit with Enthalpy Recovery.
Technology Selection Criteria
The proposed technologies were selected because they ensure:
- Improved thermal and acoustic comfort for users;
- Wide range of nominal flow rates supported, making it suitable for a variety of applications;
- Reduced additional energy consumption;
- Installation Flexibility and easy adaptability to the existing building environment;
- Easy availability on the market and within a reasonable timeframe.
