Summary

Scope of the contract: Detailed design of the industrial HVAC systems for the switch room of a manufacturing plant.

Project Objective: The objective is to develop a plan that ensures the proper operation of the plant’s industrial air conditioning systems and maintains appropriate environmental conditions.

Key information

Client Name: Leading manufacturer of thermoplastic materials for engineering applications

Project Name: Detailed Design for the Industrial Air Conditioning System in the Switchgear Room

Project Period: February – July 2024

Buildings involved: Industrial plant in the province of Varese

Description of activities:

The project involves designing the summer cooling system for the plant’s switchgear room. Once the design conditions and the characteristics of the space to be cooled were defined, the summer heat load was calculated using the Carrier-Pizzetti method.

Based on the data collected, the cooling system was sized to include 8 fan coil units operating with chilled water drawn from the existing line, with an inlet temperature of 13°C and an outlet temperature of 18°C.

In addition, to keep the switchgear room free of dust from the plant, a slight overpressure has been designed, which will be achieved by introducing air from outside using a centrifugal fan.

The following documents were produced: the technical project report, including the design criteria; the performance specifications for the main technical components; the instrumented process flow diagram (P&ID); and the bill of quantities.
